Biology Internships to Choose From

Biology Career

A career in any field of biology can be very interesting because you get to understand the science behind everything that lives, including humans. This is where the best biology colleges come into play.

For starters, biology is the study of life and living things, their life cycles, and their adaptation to the environment. In addition, there are many different fields of study under the umbrella of biological sciences, including biochemistry, microbiology, and evolutionary biology.

In this article, we have compiled a list of biology internships and other relevant information about careers in biology. So, if you are interested in taking a biology degree program and need to know about internships this article is for you.

Why study biology?

Biology is a very interesting course to study. As a biology graduate, you have so many opportunities right around the corner. First, those who choose to study biological sciences can expect to expand their knowledge of cell theory, evolution, genetics, energy, and equilibrium. In addition, biology students will have a good foundation for transitioning into medicine and many will go into research laboratories or pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Keep in mind that many professions such as oceanographer, ecologist, or marine biologist will require further study after earning a bachelor’s degree.

If you are a biology major or are interested in studying living things, here are the career opportunities you can pursue after graduation.

Biological Technician

Biological technicians use the laboratory skills and techniques that biology students learn in their labs, academic research, and collaborative research with faculty. Lab internships involve helping and assisting with laboratory operations. Expect to examine and experiment with the supervision of a laboratory manager.

Biochemist

Biochemists play an important role in the rapidly growing areas of biotechnology and biomedical research. Therefore, the study of biology equips them with scientific research skills to work at pharmacy or biotech companies.

U.S. News & World Report states that a biochemist’s career path could be agricultural scientist, biochemical engineer, biomedical engineer, petroleum engineer, pharmacologist, veterinarian and more.

Genetic Counselor

Genetic counselors evaluate clients’ genetics and communicate with them about the risks of passing on a genetic disease or disability to their offspring. Note that they must have advanced proficiency in biology to complete the required master’s degree in the specialty.

Environmental Scientist

Environmental scientists might choose to work as climate change analysts, environmental chemists, environmental restoration and rehabilitation specialists, industrial ecologists, and environmental health and safety specialists. Also as a marine biologist there are numerous career pathways such as zoologist, aquarium manager, fish and wildlife biologist, marine conservationist and ichthyologist, just to name a few.
