California and New York mayors offer scholarships for vaccinated students
The city of Lancaster is offering a $10,000 grand prize scholarship raffle and New York is offering 50, four-year full-ride scholarships to any New York State public college or university.
The city announced the scholarship raffle, which is open to fully vaccinated students ages 16 to 18. One grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship, a second prize winner will get a $5,000 scholarship and 20 winners will receive a $50 gift card.
Students can enter the raffle by posting a photo about their vaccination status on social media with the hashtags “#10kVaxChallenge” and “#VaccinateLancaster.” The money will come from the city’s scholarship fund, and the deadline to apply is June 30. Parents or legal guardians of any New Yorker, ages 12 to 17, can enter their child who has received at least their first COVID-19 vaccine dose (at any time), for a chance to win one of 50, four-year full-ride scholarships (includes tuition, fees, room-and-board, and expenses) to any New York State public college or university.
The estimated costs for a student living on campus at a State University of New York location, for example, are: $7,070 for tuition, $14,110 for room and board, $1,290 for books and supplies and $1,010 for transportation.
Only one entry per child will be valid and all duplicate entries will be removed prior to the drawing being held.
